Fic Announcement: More Crazy Crossovers

Fandoms: Lord of the Rings/The Kill Point
Title: Strategy Meeting (also here)
Rating: General
Characters: Faramir and Jake Mendez
Word count
: 986
Summary: A good commander is always willing to listen to advice, even if the advisor is a curiosity in himself.

***

For what is basically a writing exercise using crossover characters, this little ficlet gave me far too much trouble. No matter what tack I tried, my brain kept insisting that I should answer the questions of how and why, and address every one of Faramir’s numerous thoughts and suspicions and curiosities about the stranger I dropped in his lap. Which would’ve led to another monster fic-from-hell that I am so not willing to write!

Even though I knew fairly early on what I wanted the story to do, it was quite difficult to keep the balance and not have one character outshine the other. I think in this, the fifth or sixth attempt, I finally managed to get it right

Fic Announcement: Crazy Crossover

I posted the first of my Crazy Crossover ficlets:

Fandoms: Supernatural/Stargate Atlantis

Rating: General
Characters: Dean Winchester, Rodney McKay
Word count: 602
Summary: Dean had thought Sammy was the ultimate geek. Until, in a galaxy far, far away, he met Doctor Rodney McKay.

Fandoms: Stargate Atlantis/Lord of the Rings
Title: Women’s Work (also here)
Rating: General
Characters: Éowyn and Teyla
Word count
: 691
Summary: Although they grew up worlds apart, Éowyn and Teyla have more in common than either might have first thought.

In all honesty, I have to say that this Crazy Crossover thing is fun! Far more fun than I expected it to be. It’s also a good exercise, because it allows (and forces) me to concentrate on the characters. Without going into the hows and whys of a bigger plot, I can focus on the who, what, where and when. I won’t say it’s easy—like any fic writing, some of it comes naturally, while at other times it’s more like pulling teeth—but I would advise this to anyone who’s in a rut, writing-wise, or maybe even suffers from writing block.

And yes, I am still working on some of the other requests. Jake Mendez & Faramir is mostly done, while Sam & Faramir is percolating. However, I am as yet clueless to Bobby & Legolas, or Dean & Aragorn

Title: The Thing About Thoughts
Rating: General
Characters: Dean, Sam
Word count: 618
Summary: Sam will never forget the advice that Mr. Wyatt gave him (spoilers for Supernatural 4.13 After School Special)

***

There were other fic options in this episode (like: why wasn’t Dean in possession of the car yet?), but this was the first to actually come to fruition. Because apparently I never grow bored of thinking what makes Sam tick.

Fic announcement: The Kill Point

Fandom: The Kill Point
Title: Just Two Men Talking
Rating: General
Characters: Jake ‘Wolf’ Mendez, Horst Cali
Word count: 1,440
Summary: Jake Mendez and Horst Cali have been playing cat and mouse for three days. Now Jake is about to change the rules of the game.

This was just a missing scene, in the truest sense of the word, that I wanted to write. It turned out to be a lot more difficult to make it work on the page than it did in my head. Fortunately, my beta-extraordinaire tanaqui applied her red pen special and made it all better.

Also, it amuses me to no end that there are now four Kill Point fics in An Archive Of Our Own, and they’re all mine :-).

Fic rec: dotfic’s When the Hour Turns Over (Gen, PG)

Happy belated 30th birthday to Dean Winchester.  As [info]dolimir_k says in the comments of the linked fic, “He made it to 30…and only died 3 times in the process.”, which, *snerk*, yes!

Anyway, When the Hour Turns Over by [info]dotfic is a lovely Dean-turns-thirty fic, where the boys are just so boys, and that has that bittersweet, melancholic feel that is so quintessential Supernatural.

Crazy crossovers

No promises, but… gacked from [info]ignipes:

Give me two characters from different fandoms you know I’m familiar with, and I’ll give you a dialogue happening between the two of them. Without justifying how the crossover would work, how their worlds clashed, or how they could even meet each other. Just a silly crossover conversation with no backstory, for fun.

Fic announcement: two SPN ‘smutlets’

Word count: 750
Summary: Jess learns the Winchester boys don’t give up quickly.

***

Fandom: Supernatural
Title: Hitting The Spot

During the last week of hiatus, some daring souls decided to run an anonymous kink smut ficfest entitled [info]blindfold_spn. I have to say, watching that comm explode (with over 4,000 comments) has been very… educational. I learned several new words, and discovered acts I never believed the human body was capable of (and this being fiction, I’m probably right). Also, the human imagination can be a scary place, when asked to come up with the smuttiest kink prompt one can think of while remaining anonymous (though I also suspect there was a certain element of trying to outdo one another in play as well…).

Anyway, my muses decided to respond to two of the vanillaier (yes, that’s so a word!) prompts, making me pop my Sam/Dean/Jess cherry in the process (it was just a matter of time before I wrote that threesome), and write some John/Ellen porn as well. The last, surprisingly, came with plot. Or perhaps not that surprising, since I did need some sort of setup to make what happened next believable in my own mind, before I could ever write it.

In any case, it’s been a fun experience!

I also have posted over forty Supernatural fics now…

Fic announcement: The Kill Point

Fandom: The Kill Point
Title: Crossroads
Rating: General
Characters: Jake ‘Wolf’ Mendez
Word count: 1,870
Summary: Court-martialed for serious crimes, Jake is made an offer he doesn’t want to refuse.

While needing a break from the Monster Fixit AU from Hell, I asked Tanaqui what other things she wanted to see explored. She suggested several things, and I’m not even sure if this was included. I did want to try and wrap my head around the character of Jake Mendez, as well as some of the not-quite-adding-up canon elements, so this came to be. The man’s still largely an enigma, but at least his back story makes more sense now. If only in my own mind…

Fic announcement: Dark Angel

Fandom: Dark Angel
Title: The Price Of Betrayal
Rating: Teen
Characters: X5-494, Rachel Berrisford, Clemente, (semi-)OCs
Word count: 38,470
Summary: When he’s told to murder the girl he’s fallen in love with, Manticore’s supersoldier X5-494 does the unthinkable: he disobeys his orders and breaks rank.

***

Once upon a time, I was rewatching The Berrisford Agenda-episode, as one is wont to do. Remember that flashback scene on the staircase, where 494 tries to stop Rachel and ends up with a handful of locket?

“Hm,” said the muse. “That shouldn’t have happened. Not with those X5 reflexes.”

“No,” said I. “But it serves the plot, and it’s not unthinkable.”

“Hm,” said the muse again, idly adding, “I wonder how things would’ve turned out if he hadn’t missed…”

Thus a plot bunny was born…

That innocent fluffy What if-bunny then turned into a monster AU. Some three years, nearly 40,000 words and numerous rewrites and replotting later, The Price Of Betrayal finally sees the light. Am I happy with it? Not entirely, though I’m very happy to Get. It. Out at last. And I suspect I’ll get slammed for the ending, but my What if-AUs have a tendency to get back onto the canon track at some point or other.

Naturally, while posting the final part, I finally figured out what I suspect is missing. And while it won’t fit within the story proper (so whew, that can stand as it is!), I’m thinking a little sequel is in order. Because right, I don’t have enough story ideas yet. And assuming I can gather up the courage to tackle this ‘verse again…

Fic Announcement: Supernatural

Fandom: Supernatural
Title: Unsung Heroes
Rating: General
Characters: Bobby
Word count: 1,130
Summary: Hunters are like the unsung heroes of our world. Bobby has made it his duty to ensure that even when they’re gone, they’ll not be forgotten.

On Christmas morning, the muse woke me with this little gift of a ficlet. Judging by the subject matter, the reflective spirit of the holiday must’ve gotten to her. Personally, I was mostly glad that I could still write, after the fight that the Kill Point fixit AU put up before I got something resembling a decent second draft down…

And oh yeah, expect more fic from me in the next couple of days. I’m scrambling to keep up with my betas 😉
